2026 guide

The best lawn care software in Australia (2026).

Short version: for a dedicated lawn and garden maintenance business in Australia or New Zealand, we believe SortScape (yes, that is us) is the best fit. For general trades on iPhones, look at ServiceM8. For quoted trade work, Tradify or Fergus. For big multi-service operations happy to pay in USD, Jobber.

This guide is written by the SortScape team, so read our entry with that in mind. The competitor details below come from public pricing pages, documentation, and Capterra listings, checked July 2026 (Jobber, ServiceM8, and Tradify pricing re-checked September 2026), and we have tried to be genuinely fair about who should buy what.

The detail on each option.

1. SortScape

Lawn & garden maintenance in AU/NZ

Full disclosure: SortScape is our product, so judge this entry accordingly. It is built only for lawn mowing and garden maintenance businesses. Recurring visit series with seasonal frequencies, drag-and-drop rescheduling, route optimisation on every plan, SMS and email visit reminders (automatic sending on Premium), quoting with online approval, and invoicing with Xero and QuickBooks Online sync on the Premium plan.

Strengths: Purpose-built for recurring rounds and simple enough that crews actually use it, AUD pricing from A$15 a month with unlimited visits, full iOS and Android apps, Australian-hours support with free one-on-one onboarding, and one of the highest-rated Xero job management integrations.

Watch out for: It is a specialist. No client self-service portal, no live GPS crew tracking, no purchase orders, and fewer big-platform extras than Jobber. If you need those, look at the generalists below.

2. Jobber

Multi-service home businesses, North America

The best-known name in home-service software, serving over 100,000 businesses across 50+ industries. Polished scheduling, quoting, invoicing, a client self-service portal, marketing add-ons, and AI tools.

Strengths: Breadth and polish. Client hub, review and email marketing add-ons, a huge integration marketplace, and strong AI features.

Watch out for: Australians are billed in USD, extra users cost about US$29 a month each, add-ons stack up, and live support runs on North American hours.

3. ServiceM8

iPhone-equipped trade businesses

An Australian favourite for trades, priced per job rather than per user: paid plans bundle a monthly job allowance with unlimited users. Great dispatch, quoting, forms, VoIP phone integration, and mature AI features.

Strengths: Unlimited users, slick phone integration, strong AI, MYOB support, and a genuinely useful free tier for very small operators.

Watch out for: The full Android app only arrived in September 2026 (before that, Android was the limited Lite companion), recurring jobs need an add-on, and per-job pricing climbs quickly on a busy mowing round where every visit counts as a job.

4. Tradify

Tradies quoting varied jobs

A well-rated NZ-born job management app (now part of The Access Group) aimed at electricians, plumbers, and other trades. Strong quoting, enquiry management, purchase orders, and accounting integrations including MYOB.

Strengths: Deep quoting toolkit, tidy job tracking, and broad accounting support. Highly rated for ease of use.

Watch out for: Per-user pricing multiplies with the crew, recurring jobs are templates whose edits do not update already-created visits, SMS reminders cost extra per message, and it does not advertise route optimisation.

5. Fergus

NZ/AU trade teams on Xero

An Auckland-born platform used by 20,000+ trade businesses in NZ, Australia, and the UK. Its DNA is plumbing and electrical job management: quoting, variations, back-costing, and one of the best-regarded Xero integrations around.

Strengths: Excellent Xero sync, solid job costing, and fair per-user pricing with cheaper timesheet-only seats.

Watch out for: Built for quoted trade work rather than dense recurring mowing rounds, and no route optimisation that we could find documented.

6. AroFlo

Established trade businesses, 10+ staff

A Melbourne veteran (part of the Simpro Group) serving bigger trade and field-service operations with deep compliance, asset, and project features. Heavier and pricier than anything else on this list.

Strengths: Depth for complex operations: projects, compliance, assets, inventory. Australian company with local support.

Watch out for: Overkill for a mowing business. Per-user pricing is at the premium end, onboarding takes real effort, and the feature depth is aimed at large trade teams.

7. GorillaDesk

US pest control and route-based services

A US product priced per route (crew) rather than per user, with pest-control DNA. Well liked, with route optimisation on its Pro tier and recurring billing options.

Strengths: High ratings, route-friendly pricing for multi-crew operations, and good scheduling tools.

Watch out for: USD pricing, QuickBooks-only native accounting (Xero requires Zapier), US-centric SMS and support, and no Australian presence.

8. Yardbook

US hobbyists and side hustles on $0

A free, ad-supported US lawn-care platform covering customers, scheduling, invoicing, and basic routing. Popular with US operators starting out because the entry price is zero.

Strengths: Genuinely free tier with broad basic features.

Watch out for: US-centric: no Xero, no GST-aware AU setup, SMS built on US infrastructure, and a thin review base for its claimed size. Fine for a side hustle, hard to recommend for a serious Australian business.

9. LawnPro

US lawn businesses on QuickBooks

A US lawn-care specialist since 2004 with recurring scheduling, routing, and automated texting. Feature-rich for its niche and reasonably priced in USD.

Strengths: Genuine lawn-care focus, recurring scheduling, and route optimisation.

Watch out for: Built for the US market: QuickBooks-only accounting, USD billing, no Australian tax or SMS setup, and support is text and chat only.

10. Service Autopilot

Large US lawn/snow operations

A powerful US platform (owned by Xplor) for big lawn, cleaning, and snow operations, with heavy automation. Its useful tiers run US$199 to US$499 a month plus sign-up fees.

Strengths: Serious automation and scale for large multi-crew operations.

Watch out for: Steep learning curve, US-and-Canada focus, QuickBooks-only accounting on paid tiers, and the lowest rating in this list. Not built for Australia.

How to choose.

Start with three questions. First, will the crew actually use it? The most common way field software fails is staff ignoring it, so weight simplicity heavily and have the crew complete a few real visits during the trial. Second, how does your work repeat? If your week is a recurring round of the same properties, prioritise software where repeating series, bulk rescheduling, and route optimisation are core features rather than add-ons. If most work is quoted one-offs, a trade platform like Tradify or Fergus may fit better. Third, what will it really cost? Convert USD prices to AUD, add per-user fees for every crew member, per-job overages for every visit, and per-message SMS fees. The advertised entry price is rarely the real monthly bill.

Then trial your shortlist properly: set up your ten busiest customers, reschedule a rain day, optimise a route, and send an invoice to yourself. A week of real use tells you more than any comparison table, including this one. Choosing lawn care software: FAQs

What is the best software for a lawn mowing business in Australia? +
For most Australian lawn and garden maintenance businesses, we would obviously point to SortScape: it is the only option on this list built specifically for recurring mowing rounds, priced in AUD, with Xero integration and local support. But the honest answer depends on your situation: ServiceM8 suits iPhone-based trade businesses, Tradify and Fergus suit tradies doing quoted work, and Jobber suits larger multi-service operations that do not mind USD billing.
Is there good free lawn mowing software in Australia? +
Yardbook is free but built for the US market, with no Xero integration or GST-aware setup. ServiceM8 has a free tier limited to 30 jobs a month, which a weekly mowing round exhausts with about 7 clients. Most Australian businesses outgrow free options quickly; paid entry points start around A$15 to A$29 a month.
Which lawn care software works with Xero? +
In this list: SortScape (on its Premium plan), ServiceM8, Tradify, Fergus, and AroFlo have native Xero integration, and Jobber added a one-way Xero sync in 2024 on its mid-tier plans. The US-focused options (Yardbook, LawnPro, GorillaDesk, Service Autopilot) are QuickBooks-centric, with no native Xero support.
Do these apps charge in AUD or USD? +
SortScape, ServiceM8, Tradify, and AroFlo bill Australians in AUD. Jobber, Yardbook, LawnPro, GorillaDesk, and Service Autopilot bill in USD, which means your cost moves with the exchange rate and may attract international card fees. Fergus prices by region.
What features matter most for a mowing business? +
Recurring visit scheduling that handles weekly and fortnightly rounds (ideally with seasonal frequency changes), easy bulk rescheduling for rain days, route optimisation to cut drive time, SMS visit reminders, time tracking, and invoicing that connects to your accounting software. Client portals and marketing suites are nice extras, but the six above are what save hours every week. None of them help if the app is too complicated for the crew, so weight simplicity heavily.
How did you rank this list, given SortScape wrote it? +
We put ourselves first for our target customer (AU/NZ lawn and garden maintenance) because that is genuinely where we believe we win, and we say plainly who should pick something else: iPhone trade businesses (ServiceM8), quoted trade work (Tradify, Fergus), big trade teams (AroFlo), and North American operations (Jobber and the US products). Competitor details come from their public pricing pages and documentation, checked July 2026 (Jobber, ServiceM8, and Tradify pricing re-checked September 2026), with Capterra ratings as listed at that date.
