Not sure what one tank covers? Work it out
  1. Put clean water in the tank and note the level.
  2. Mark out a test patch and spray it at your normal pace and pressure.
  3. Measure how much water you used, then enter both below.
L
One full 15 L tank covers about 300 m².

SortScape keeps every calibration you record and warns you when a sprayer is due for a re-check.

Built into SortScape

Set it up once. Your crew gets the amounts on every job.

This calculator forgets everything when you close it. SortScape keeps your mixes and sprayers, works out each tank on the job, and turns it into a spray record you can hand over when someone asks.

  • Saved mixes your crew picks on the job

No retyping rates at the tap. Pick the mix and the amounts for that sprayer are ready.

  • Every registered product, by name or number

Search the APVMA, US EPA or HSE register by product name or the number on the label. The registration number and active ingredients go on the record.

  • Sprayers with a calibration log

Each sprayer keeps its tank size and calibrations, with a warning when one is due for a re-check.

  • A spray record in under a minute

In Australia and the US the weather fills in from the nearest station. Wind, humidity and Delta T go on the record, with who applied it and their licence number.

  • Records you can hand over

A spray diary report and CSV export, every spray listed on the property, and chemicals on the customer's service report.

How the spray mix calculator works

Enter your mix, your sprayer and the area you're treating. The calculator works out how much spray to make up, splits it into full and part tanks, and gives the amount of each product for every tank.

  1. Add each product with the rate you use, such as 100 mL per 100 L of water or 1.5 L per hectare. In Australia, the US and the UK you can search for the registered product by name or number.
  2. Enter your tank size and how much area one full tank covers. If you don't know, spray clean water over a test patch and the calculator works it out.
  3. Choose whole area and enter the area, or choose spot spray and enter how much mix you're making up.
  4. Check the calculated amounts against the product label, then fill each tank.

Example

A 15 L backpack covers 300 m² per tank. To spray 1,000 m² you need 50 L of mix: three full tanks and a 5 L part tank. A herbicide at 1.5 L per hectare needs 150 mL for the job, so each full tank gets 45 mL and the part tank gets 15 mL. A wetting agent at 100 mL per 100 L gets 15 mL per full tank and 5 mL in the part tank.

Questions

Should I use a per-litre or a per-hectare rate? +
Use whatever the label gives you. A per-litre rate depends on how much mix you make. A per-hectare rate depends on the area you spray, and the water only carries it, which is why the calculator needs to know how much one full tank covers.
How do I calibrate a backpack sprayer? +
Put clean water in the tank, mark out a test patch and spray it at your normal walking pace and pressure. Measure how much water you used. The calculator turns that into the area one full tank covers.
Why does the part tank get less product? +
A part tank covers less ground, so it gets the same share of each product as its share of the total mix.
Does the calculator recommend rates? +
No. It does the arithmetic on the rates you enter. Always follow the current product label.
Can I save my mixes and sprayers? +
Not on this page. In SortScape you save each mix as an application preset and each sprayer with its calibration, then record every spray on the job. Setting one up takes about a minute, and from then on your crew picks it from a list on every job.
